As a Senior Associate for a national firm, Mr. Gross tested the market opportunities for an R&D park related to the medical school facilities at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). He examined the overall trends in funding for medical research captured by the university and he identified marketing strengths and development potentials.
The 32-acre park has been successfully developed and is operating as a hub for biotechnology that builds on the inherent strengths and grant funding for medical research at VCU as well as the region’s economic base (e.g., Richmond-based Altria (tobacco) has its R&D facilities in the park). The park is home to over 60 private and non-profit companies, state and federal laboratories, and VCU research institutes that serve as anchors for marketing and development of the park.
