Randall Gross led his South African firm ADEC and a group of subconsultants on a strategic development plan for the former Guba Farms area near Queenstown, South Africa. He completed this work for Chris Hani District and Emalahleni Local Municipality. The planning effort included an extensive and intensive public participation process culminating in a three-day community charrette. Leading up to the charrette, Mr. Gross and his team analyzed socio-economic conditions and assessed agricultural value chain and development potentials. Team members also assessed environmental and agricultural conditions. The plan ultimately included a statement of objectives, an Agricultural Development & Business Plan, and a conceptual settlement plan for this rural area.
